Musical Journey
Juan Diego Bolaños is a musician from Lima who began his musical journey at the age of 13 in March 2017. He started as a member of his school’s marching band, playing tenor drums. This experience led him to arrange music for drumlines and eventually for the entire marching band, after teaching himself music theory through YouTube tutorials. Later that same year, inspired by the experience of performing live with friends, he began learning the electric bass as a hobby and gradually transitioned to the electric guitar in September 2017. Initially, he played classic rock songs with his father but soon developed an interest in J-Rock in February 2018, drawn to the intricate yet balanced arrangements reminiscent of those in marching bands, with his main inspiration being the band The Oral Cigarettes.
This blend of influences led him to create arrangements for rock ensembles, carefully crafting pieces that supported the main melody. Over the next two years, he honed his technique, recording covers and experimental tracks with friends in his home studio. He also assisted other artists by recording demos, testing audio engineering techniques—including microphone placement, phase alignment, and drum mic techniques—and learning studio maintenance, troubleshooting, and fast-paced workflows.
In 2020, he applied to Berklee College of Music and began his studies in Fall 2021. During his time at Berklee, he deepened his knowledge of music theory, sound design, and virtual orchestration, while also refining his guitar technique under private instruction for the first time. He explored a wide range of artistic expressions, mastering numerous techniques to create art.
He performed live in consecutive years as part of J-Pop bands, learning new songs and styles of interpretation and arrangement while collaborating with other artists. Now, in 2025, Juan Diego is working on a J-Rock inspired album colaborating with people to share his sound and contributing a fresh artistic expression to the world.
